Live Your Best Cheese Plate Life
Having the necessities to whip up a platter at any time is essential to the cheese slut lifestyle.
Whether for an impromptu gathering or just to treat yourself to dinner,
you’ll be prepared if you keep stocked with something from each category below.
These are the four cheese board essentials I always have on hand.
Cheese Board Pantry Essentials
All cheese is fairly salty, so you want to balance that with a lil’ sweetness.
Try something for drizzling, like honey, balsamic, or maple syrup.
I also like nibbling dried figs between bites of cheese.
Cheese is rich and fatty, so you need a palate cleanser between bites.
Look for anything plump that will make you go **slurrrrp**
such as pickles, apple slices, grapes, or olives.
I love to dollop condiments onto cheese and experiment with different combinations.
Whether sweet or savory, a good spread makes every bite just a bit sexier.
Look for preserves, jams, marmalades, chutneys, tapenades, and mustards.
In between all those the jams, pickles, and cheeses, you need something to crunch on.
My go-to’s are candied or roasted nuts; unsalted of course—cheese is salty enough as it is.
Then again, salted fried Marcona almonds are the tits with cheese.
Try praline walnuts, pistachios, toffees, crackers, pretzels, or crusty baguette.
Other fun things to add:
- Charcuterie: makes any platter better. Look for prosciutto, spicy calabrese, or even spreadable ‘nduja.
- Chocolate: I lean towards dark, as milk is sweeter and can overwhelm the cheese. Try with an earthy blue.
- Get a little crazy: try french fries, potato chips, popcorn, or even roe. You never know what might work.
