What to Put on a Cheeseboard: Cheese + Carb + Veggies + Pairings + Protein
Aim for 2 oz per person, which is about 180 – 220 cal. You can focus on one cheese, or get a variety of ages, textures, and milk-types. Pair a soft, bloomy cheese like Humboldt Fog with a toothsome, mature queen like Midnight Moon goat gouda. Remember to bring these girls to room temperature before serving, 20 minutes for softies and 40 minutes for older ones.
Carbs are the vehicle that helps the cheese get into your mouth! Bulk up your cheeseboard with baguette, bagels, pasta – whatever you’re feeling tonight, baby! Don’t let anyone keep you from experimenting, but when in doubt you can never go wrong with classic crackers, like these ones from Rustic Bakery.
Cheese is very nutrient-rich: it just need a little produce for vitamin C and fiber. Crisp fruits and veggies also refresh your palate between bites. - 1 oz Humboldt Fog from Cypress Grove room temperature
- 1 oz Midnight Moon room temperature
- 1 oz salami room temperature
- 1 cup salad greens
- 8-10 crackers
- 8-10 candied pecans
- 1 tablespoon honey
- 1 tablespoon mustard
- 1 teaspoon EVOO
- salt and pepper
- Put the honey and mustard into little bowls or jars to keep them contained. Place them at opposite corners of the plate.
- Place both of the cheeses around the honey.
- Add the salami next to the mustard.
- Pile the greens near the savory side of the plate, by the mustard and salami.
- Place the pecans near the Midnight Moon.
- Tuck the crackers near the Humboldt Fog.
- Place a spoon by the honey and mustard, and a small knife by the Humboldt Fog.
