“Down deep inside, we all know that life is not a race to be run, it’s a journey to be savored every step of the way. ”
After several months of funemployment/sparce freelancing gigs, I’m finally starting a new job this week doing social media for a Lettuce Entertain You restaurant. It’s a really great opportunity and for the first time in my life, I’m excited to go to work today. In fact, there’s a possibility that I’ll start two jobs this week, whilst still keeping up with my cheese manifesto and my work with Chicagoist. It’s going to be a busy summer, but what makes you feel more alive than that?
I could easily get caught up in this new whirlwind of to-do lists and late shifts and let my summer slip away into Fall, unnoticed. But I’m not going to do that. Because life is like a piece of rhubarb cheesecake: you could wolf it down without breathing, or you could slowly savor each bite, reaping more enjoyment and making your dessert last longer.
Let us all take a moment today, and every day, to slow down and smell the cheese we eat it. Put down your phone, stop thinking about your next task, and just savor the moment. You’re alive right now, so don’t get ahead of yourself. Embrace it.
