Not-So-Innocent Virgin Pairings
Whether you’re pregnant, cutting down, or just don’t partake, you can still enjoy beverage and cheese pairings without alcohol. Some juices are just as complex and delicious as a fine wine, like those of Owen + Alchemy, my favorite in Chicago. I’m in love with their sexy apothecary aesthetic and cold-pressed juices made with ingredients that are truly farm-to-table. Each juice and kombucha is as delicious as it is nutritious and their packaging is really sexy. I chose a couple of their products to pair with the sensual goat cheeses from Cypress Grove in California.
Go ahead and indulge, it’ll be good for you.
Pairing cheese with juice makes a really healthy meal or snack: the fat in the cheese slows your digestion helping you absorb all of the vitamins and minerals in the juice. It also makes a portable meal, since juice is allowed in a lot of places where wine is not
– like your office, for example. Choose any of your favorite juices or kombuchas and pair with an ounce or two of cheese.
All of the basic pairing rules apply: contrast sweet juice with salty cheese and complement citrusy juices
with decadent textures. Experiment with a few combinations
and let these beautiful pairings guide you. 👇
No. 21 Blueberry Basil + Humboldt Fog
The combination of this bodacious and sweet juice with this citrusy chevré tastes like lemon blueberry pancakes.
There’s something very seductive about that bold purple hue
against that bone-white curd, too.
No. 62 Sour Cherry Kombucha + Midnight Moon + Effie’s Homemade Cocoa Cakes
The tart funk in this kombucha makes sweet love to the subtle goaty flavor in this gouda-style cheese.
I added a couple crunchy chocolate cookies for texture.
A3 Chocolate Probiotic Almonds + Truffle Tremor
Here’s a bonus pairing that’s especially good for digestion: raw cocoa sprouted almonds deliver probiotics and fiber,
while goat milk chevre is easier to digest than other cheeses. There’s also a hint of truffle, purely for luxury.
